Dad and Lad Cake Contest
O.k., so I know what it may look like, but this is cub scouts and the cake is a campfire cake. The fruit roll-up flames did not work out and try as we might we could not find chocolate doughnut holes for the coals.
Justin and Kevin made this all by themselves. The idea comes from the Family Fun magazine, but they baked the cake with our family favorite sour cream pound cake recipe. They also made the frosting from scratch using a recipe from our favorite Test Kitchen Cookbook.
I was really proud of them for sticking it out and doing this together. Unfortunately because of snowy weather our Blue and Gold Banquet was cancelled! (Darn, we got to eat all of that delicious cake ourselves). : )
Great job guys!

I knew exactly what it was from looking at it. Good work! That is a lot of dedication. Real coals end up looking white and ashy anyway so those doughnut holes are perfect. I think anyway. :)
Your rental house has a pretty decent kitchen.
P.S. Thanks for your nice comments.
I LOVE this cake! How fun that they did it together. Too bad about the blue and gold. We had ours last month-baked potato bar with NO butter! The Costco cake for dessert was delicious though! :)
