The Tomato

If you've watched any weather news lately you know about the thunderstorms and tornados tearing their way through the midwest and south.  Two nights ago we were thick in the middle of said thunderstorms--just as we were trying to make lunches and get kids in bed no less.  Anyway, after Kenzie had been tucked into bed, the tornado warning sirens started to go off.  So we gathered up all the kids and huddled in our laundry room/pantry--(townhouse living, gotta get you some of that!).

As I'm snuggling with Kenzie while the sirens are blaring and Justin is still watching the news reports of where the tornados are touching down, Kenzie says to me, "Mommy, there's a tomato!!"  Poor thing, she new something big was going on but didn't really know what it was.
A few minutes later she said, "Mommy!  The big giant tomato is going to eat us!"  Now I can see how you could mix up "tornado" with "tomato" but I'm not sure where that part comes in.  :)

So we did our best to explain what a tornado was--you know like in "The Wizard of Oz," when Dorothy's house gets picked up in the wind.  She stopped and processed the information and then with a very serious look on her face says, "Oh.  I don't like that."

Thankfully, we have been blessed to not be in any tornado's path.  I've got to tell you though, if you've never experienced a Texas thunderstorm--they're pretty amazing!  It's something that I have come to love about Texas!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by these storms.

How scary. Glad you didn't actually have a tornado come to your house! Kenzie sounds like she inherited the same creative imagination your other kids have. Love it.

Funny! If there are ever sirens going off again, I'll have to remember it's just a giant tomato and it won't freak me out as much. :)
